Summer Fayre
The children in Year 5 had a great time this morning celebrating the summer fayre.
Thank you to the PTA for all their hard work in organising an amazing event for the children.
Holy Family Taster Day
Today, the children in Year 5 experienced a taster day at Holy Family Catholic High School.
They took part in a Geography, Mathematics and P.E lesson.
Year 5 had a brilliant time and the staff at Holy Family commented on how polite and respectful the children were.
Relaxation
This morning, the children in Year 5 enjoyed reading and relaxing in shade.
Good Shepherd Mass
On Thursday, some children from Year 5 went to celebrate Mass at the Metropolitan Cathedral. The mass was led by Archbishop John Sherrington and was to celebrate all the work done in raising money for Nugent Care.
Retreat Day
Last week, Y5 had an excellent time at St Joseph’s Prayer Centre.
The children took part in a range of workshops celebrating differences and recognising the qualities in each other.
Y5 Sports Day
What a brilliant afternoon the children had at Sports Day!

Pixels
As part of our Computing lessons, we have been looking at how data is transferred using binary code.
We then created our own pixel art to reflect how computers use code to represent the colour of each pixel in an image.
Painting
Today we investigated the effect of different salts when added to water colours. We used table, epsom and Himalayan salt along with a combination of each to create the different effects.
Differences between mammals and amphibians
Today we looked at what is a mammal and an amphibian. We looked at what is a living thing before exploring the similarities and differences between mammals and amphibians.

Reflection
Today we have used mirrors to explore reflection.
We noticed how the image was flipped when the mirror was placed on the mirror line.
The children enjoyed creating their own designs and seeing them reflected through their mirrors.
Battleships
To help support our understanding of coordinates, we played in pairs a game of Battleships.
Diamond Nine
Today we discussed solutions to pollution and how we can help.
In pairs, we used a Diamond Nine to rank which solution we felt would be most effective and least effective.
The children then justified their choices.
