How can we separate materials from a mixture?
Today we explored how to separate materials from a mixture.
We looked at different methods including: filtering, sieving and magnets.
We then used each method to separate a mixture of sand, pebbles and pins.
Frieda 5A, ‘I enjoyed sieving the sand.’
Year 1 Science-Animals
Year 1 Science-Animals
We have been sorting pictures of plants and animals this afternoon. The children have been talking about the features of an animal and designed their own animal.
Which materials are soluble?
This week, we investigated which materials are soluble.
Use a range of different materials, we observed what happened when they were added to water.
George 5A, ‘I liked seeing how the different materials reacted when added to the water especially the oil when it sat on top.’
How do we test the hardness of materials?
Today we explored the hardness of materials are there everyday use in life.
Working in groups, we examined which rocks could be scratched by different objects and then explained which would be suitable to use for different purposes.
As a class, we identified that granite and marble are…
Year 1- Science-Materials
Year 1-Science- Which materials are waterproof and which are not?
We have been looking at different materials this afternoon to see which ones are waterproof and not. “It’s making a hole” “the water is coming through the paper.” We looked at the following materials to carry out our experiment-…
Floating and Sinking Investigations
Today in the outdoor resource are the children are investigating classroom objects to see if they float or sink in a bowl of water. They were very excited to see if their predictions were correct or not!
Forces and magnets
In our final lesson of this unit we tested different matrials to see if they were magnetic. It was great fun.
What are conductors and insulators?
The children were investigating which material is the best to keep a drink warm.
Every hour, they recorded the temperature of the water and recorded their findings.
We discovered that the fleece was the best material for keeping the water warm.
