Year 1 Our Jubilee Pledge

We have been talking about our Jubilee Pledge in Year 1. We have decided that we will be thinking carefully about the difference between wants and needs.

Do we really need another toy? Do we really need more clothes? Do we really want more sweets? 

The children have enjoyed doing gymnastics in PE this week. We have been very lucky to have coaches from Beth Tweedle teaching the children various skills. They have been learning to use the springboard, different types of rolls and balancing on the benches. Well done Year 1! 

Year 1 Literacy- Our Toy Party

Following on from our story ‘Toys in Space’ the children had a party with their own toys from home. We had lots of yummy party food and dancing. We will then be able to write our own diary entry. 

Year 1 History- Amelia Earhart 

The children enjoyed passing the different artefacts around the circle to find out who they belonged to.  We looked at different aeroplanes from the past and sequenced them on to a timeline. 

Year 1 have enjoyed playing invasion games this afternoon. In pairs they had to pass the ball to each other through the gate. 

We have been learning about different types of animals in Year 1. We worked together to sort the pictures into mammals and birds. We talked about the different features of each animal. 

Year 1 Science 

We have been learning about wild plants and garden plants. We sequenced the tulip bulbs into the correct order. Today we have been planting sunflower seeds and different types of bulbs. 

Year 1 History Transport 

We have been sorting different types of ships in year 1. We sorted them by size and colour. We talked about how the ships are powered by coal, wind and diesel fuel. 

Year 1 Printmaking 

We have been learning about printmaking in Art this afternoon. We have been using over printing and relief printing to produce some wonderful artwork. 

Year 1- Geography-Train Stations 

We have been looking at the different train stations on a map. We have been locating the symbols on a map to help find the train stations and lines. 

Year 1- Absorbent and absorbent materials 

We have been exploring different materials to find out if they are absorbent or non-absorbent using water. We looked at the following objects- paper towel, plastic wallet, a sponge, paper, fabric and tin foil.
