At English Martyrs we firmly believe that PE has the potential to make a significant contribution to children’s development. It increases their confidence and self esteem, develops team working and leadership skills, improves concentration and promotes problem solving skills. Physical activity promotes a sense of community both inside and outside school in the local environment and provides a sense of belonging. Our PE curriculum is designed to develop this knowledge and skills which are transferable to other curriculum areas and promote their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We implement a curriculum that is progressive from Nursery to Year 6. High standards of teaching and learning ensure that all children engage with the curriculum and that learning is built upon year on year. We provide opportunities for all children to participate, succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physical activities, whether that be in school lessons, during extra curricular activities or in competitions through Sefton partnerships with other schools.
