Mindfulness in Education

“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgementally.”
(Jon Kabat Zinn)

Mindfulness in education is a developing movement in the UK and is something which English Martyrs has embraced and taken on board since January 2014. On this page we hope to give you an overview to what mindfulness is and how it is being delivered in our school. Mrs Naisbett is our mindfulness teacher and is trained to deliver mindfulness courses across the primary age range. She has her own daily mindfulness practice which is essential when teaching mindfulness to children and she is currently delivering a mindfulness course to staff, Year 4 and Year 2. Our two year 6 classes had an eight week course in term two which was very successful and pupils reported that it had a positive impact on them.
