Commonwealth Day 2014

On the 10th March 2014, eight lucky students from English Martyrs Primary School had a special treat – a trip to Westminster Abbey in London! HRH The Queen and other members of the Royal family were there. It was a once in a life time opportunity! We were chosen because we won a writing competition.

We all set off at 8:30am from Lime Street Station. On arriving at Euston station in London, we travelled by tube to a number of famous landmarks – Trafalgar Square, The National Gallery, Downing St., the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and the River Thames.

After seeing all this, we went to Westminster Abbey. There were lots of flags representing all the different Commonwealth countries there: United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, India, South Africa and many more. Not only was HRH the Queen present at the occasion, but also present were HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, and also HRH The Prince of Wales with the Duchess of Cornwall. Jocelyn was chosen to give a posy to The Duchess of Cornwall. It was a fantastic experience and an amazing day out!

Once it was over, we all went to a place call Pasta Plus and had a delicious dinner. This was a brilliant day which I will always remember. Thank you for the opportunity and experience.
